Hinged Knee Braces – Joint Stability

Hinged Knee Braces for ACL, Meniscus & Ligament Support

Meniscus tear? ACL injury? PCL sprain? Knee instability?

A hinged knee brace is one of the most effective ways to stabilise the joint, relieve pain, and protect your knee as it heals.

If your knee feels unstable, painful, or prone to “giving way,” a hinged knee brace provides structured support you can rely on. Whether you’re recovering from an ACL or PCL sprain, managing a meniscus tear, or dealing with medial/lateral joint laxity or arthritis, our hinged supports guide your knee through safe, controlled movement.

Bauerfeind’s hinged braces combine medical-grade compression, lightweight stabilising frames, and precisely engineered hinge systems trusted by clinicians and elite athletes worldwide.

What a Hinged Knee Brace Helps With

Our hinged supports are designed to stabilise and protect the knee during movement and recovery. They can help with:

• ACL, PCL, MCL and LCL injuries (including mild to moderate ligament sprains)
• Meniscus tears and rotational instability
• Arthritic knees needing medial or lateral offloading
• Knees that “collapse” or buckle under load
• Post-injury return to sport or daily activity
• Excessive side-to-side motion and hyperextension control

Engineered for Trusted Stability

Every Bauerfeind hinged knee brace is built using decades of research and clinician input.
Our hinge systems:

• Guide the knee through controlled flexion/extension
• Reduce harmful side-to-side movement
• Improve proprioception and muscle activation through compression
• Support safe loading during rehab and return to play

Our work with leading physiotherapists – including research with the University of Melbourne and Dr Cross – continues to shape world-class hinge design for ACL and complex ligament injuries.

Comfortable All-Day Wear

From the slim, mobile GenuTrain S to the high-support SecuTec Genu, every brace is anatomically shaped, breathable behind the knee, and fully adjustable to accommodate swelling and activity.

Find answers to the most common questions.

Are these braces heavy?

Bauerfeind uses a range of sturdy but lightweight materials for the hinged knee supports. Either thermoplastic struts, lightweight aeroplane aluminium alloy or interchangeable hinges, they are all designed to take weight off the leg, not add it on. Perfect for sports, travel and more.

Can these stop my leg moving?

Our hinged knee supports have a whole host of options when it comes to range of movement. Whether it's blocking hyperextension, preset angle options or complete control over extension and flexion at every 5 degrees of movement, there's an option for every knee.

Will this stop me getting injured?

While it's fair to say that Bauerfeind's hinged knee supports do minimise the risk of injury to the ligaments, meniscus and other parts of the knee, it's not 100%. Any type of physical activity carries it's own risk of injury, and if you've previously hurt yourself, that risk increases. When wearing the supports, it's still important to exercise caution and not push yourself too hard while the knee is recovering.

How do I take care of these products?

Virtually all of our products can be machine washed on a cold gentle cycle and air dried out of direct sunlight. Putting them on and taking them off carefully is recommended, and for specific product care, refer to the product manual or contact our friendly staff.

Is there warranty for these products?

Every Bauerfeind product is crafted with precision and care and is covered by a manufacturing warranty in accordance with Consumer Law. Warranty periods may vary subject to product range. At any point if you've got issues with the product or aren't sure if something is wrong, just contact our helpful staff.

How do I know they'll fit?

Bauerfeind have an incredibly extensive sizing system for our products based off of hundreds of thousands of patient measurements. The perfect anatomic fit system we use means that the supports are designed to fit your body, not the other way around. (We also offer custom options for a range of our products for those rare few who still can't fit into our sizing range).

Can I claim these back on private health insurance?

Most private health coverage with extras offer some kind of rebate on supports, but this changes widely depending on the insurance provider and the plan you're on. In general, any brace with a hinge or rigid components is covered, so you're more likely to be able to claim back with one of these than a standard knee support. If you're unsure, it's best to check directly with your insurer.
