EDS Braces

EDS (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome) is a connective tissue disorder that manifests in a wide and varying range of symptoms for each person affected. While each individual has their own set of symptoms and issues (often known as co-morbidities), the majority of people affected do have some main symptoms in common. Hypermobility, skin elasticity and digestive issues affect most people with EDS, most commonly causing joints like the ankles, knees, hips, shoulders and wrists to hyperextend, dislocate or subluxate at the slightest of movements or pressures.

Wearing an EDS support is one of the better ways to protect yourself day to day to keep the joint from moving out of place. Combining this with physiotherapy and the other treatments being undertaken, EDS braces can make a huge difference for daily quality of life.

Find answers to the most common questions.

Does everyone with EDS need these braces?

EDS is divided into 13 different types of disorder, each affecting different parts of the body in different ways. The most common of these by far is HEDS (hyperextensive ehlers danlos syndrome). Among it's many symptoms, subluxation and hyperextension of the joints is one of the more common ones. This means that most people affected by EDS will benefit from our supports.

Will these weaken my muscles?

While cheaper and less effective braces can cause an issue known as reliance (where the muscles become weaker and rely on the brace), Bauerfeind have perfected the blend of stability and movement. By restricting or immobilising specific parts of the ankle that need it, and freeing up the rest, you can continue to exercise, building and maintaining strength in the joint.

Can I wear these all day?

Virtually all our medical supports are designed to be worn for any length of time, whether it's half an hour after exercise to recover the muscle, or first thing in the morning to last thing at night.

How do I take care of these products?

Virtually all of our products can be machine washed on a cold gentle cycle and air dried out of direct sunlight. Putting them on and taking them off carefully is recommended, and for specific product care, refer to the product manual or contact our friendly staff.

What is the warranty for these products?

All supports and insoles come with a 12 month warranty, and compression stockings with a 3 month warranty for any manufacturers faults. At any point if you've got issues with the product or aren't sure if something is wrong, just contact our helpful staff.

How do I know they'll fit?

Bauerfeind have an incredibly extensive sizing system for our products based off of hundreds of thousands of patient measurements. The perfect anatomic fit system we use means that the supports are designed to fit your body, not the other way around. (We also offer custom options for a range of our products for those rare few who still can't fit into our sizing range).
