Cycling

Whether it's a relaxing Sunday road cycle, thrashing down the slopes on a mountain bike or just your daily commute to work, Australians love cycling. But when you've got an injury from it, the last thing you want to do is stop it all to let it recover.

Keeping active with an injury is a lot easier when you're wearing a bike brace, especially when it's made with quality, like Bauerfeind's range of cycling braces. Whether it's a bad knee, stiff wrist or sore elbow, they've got you covered.

Find answers to the most common questions.

What are the most common injuries in cycling?

The most common injuries in cycling are back and knee injuries. Cyclists suffer from lower-back pain, also known as sciatica due to the long hours with a poor posture. Cyclists knee pain and knee injuries are common due to overuse of the knee muscles, especially the patella during cycling movement. The inflammation of patella and supporting ligament structures can cause injuries such as patellofemoral pain syndrome. We recommend using Bauerfeind braces and Sports Support to prevent injuries from cycling.

What are the benefits of compression in cycling?

Compression helps strengthen muscles and hold them firmly in their place, preventing spasms and sprains. Bauerfeind provides medical-grade compression (unlike active-wear and low-grade compression) which increases oxygenation levels in muscles, supplies nutrients to muscles, eliminates lactic acid and promotes muscle regeneration. This assists in enhancing performance for cyclists and allows a speedy recovery post workout.

How can I prevent knee injuries while cycling?

To prevent common knee injuries such as patellofemoral pain syndrome (commonly known as cyclists knee) which are caused due to inflammation of the knee muscles from overuse, we recommend using Bauerfeind GenuTrain P3. The P in P3 stands for patella. This knee brace is targeted to provide pain relief to the knee cap. It has a special patella-tracking pad which tracks the patella as it moves and massages the tissue to improve blood circulation. To prevent knee issues, we recommend using our Sports Knee Support for active stability of the knee joint.

How do I take care of these products?

Virtually all of our products can be machine washed on a cold gentle cycle and air dried out of direct sunlight. Putting them on and taking them off carefully is recommended, and for specific product care, refer to the product manual or contact our friendly staff.

What is the warranty for these products?

All supports and insoles come with a 12 month warranty, and compression stockings with a 3 month warranty for any manufacturers faults. At any point if you've got issues with the product or aren't sure if something is wrong, just contact our helpful staff.

How do I know they'll fit?

Bauerfeind have an incredibly extensive sizing system for our products based off of hundreds of thousands of patient measurements. The perfect anatomic fit system we use means that the supports are designed to fit your body, not the other way around. (We also offer custom options for a range of our products for those rare few who still can't fit into our sizing range).

How do these help me while I'm cycling?

Cycling can put repeated strain on the muscles in your legs, back and wrists. Bauerfeind's medical-grade compression and targeted supports combine to provide relief and endurance where it's needed for better performance.

Do I have to have an injury to wear these?

The beauty of these supports is their versatility. While there are a wide range of products to manage injury (the "Train" and "Loc" range), the performance line is perfect for helping you to get more out of each movement, not only enhancing your exercise for better results, but helping protect you from injury.
